São Tomé, April 15 – Today, the Government of São Tomé and Príncipe launched three national strategic instruments at the Pestana Hotel, marking a turning point in the country's approach to public health. During this important event, placed under the leadership of Prime Minister Américo Ramos three important strategic documents, namely the Multisectoral Strategic Plan for Noncommunicable Diseases (2026–2030), the National Strategic Plan for Cancer Control (2026–2030), and the National Community Health Strategy (2026–2030) were presented.

São Tomé,-  15 April, 2026 will be recorded in the history of São Tomé and Príncipe as the moment when health ceased to be an exclusive responsibility of the health sector and became a commitment assumed by the entire Government. During the launch ceremony of the three national health strategies, held at the Pestana Hotel, the Interministerial Commitment Memorandum for Multisectoral Action in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention was signed – a document that puts the principle of "Health in All Policies" into practice.

São Tomé and Príncipe: Putting vaccination at the forefront in a changing world

São Tomé —At the maternal and child health centre of Agua Grande in the country’s capital, São Tomé, it’s vaccination day. By 9:00, the benches are filled with mothers cradling their babies and fathers watching over older children, while health booklets pass quietly from hand to hand amid the conversations. In the adjacent rooms, nurses prepare the vaccines, call families one by one and carefully record the data. Calm and trust fill the space.

São Tomé and Príncipe committed to eliminate malaria

São Tomé ‒ São Tomé and Príncipe has made remarkable strides against malaria. Over the past five years, only two malaria-related deaths have been recorded in the country.

In the first quarter of 2025, the country registered 1293 malaria cases and no deaths. The Autonomous Region of Príncipe, the smaller of the two main islands that constitute São Tomé and Príncipe, registered just three cases of malaria as of March 2025, compared with nine in the same period the year before.
